Fotoware appoints Terje Wibe as CEO to lead its next phase of growth
Oslo, Norway – 2 November 2026
Fotoware, a pioneer in Digital Asset Management (DAM) backed by Viking Growth, today announces the appointment of Terje Wibe as Chief Executive Officer. Wibe takes the helm at a pivotal time for the DAM market: AI, exploding content volumes and rising demands for trust and authenticity are changing what organizations across industries need from the platforms that manage their most valuable digital content.
Wibe comes to Fotoware after more than 12 years as CEO of Mercell, where he led the company's growth into a leading European tendering platform, both organically and through a series of acquisitions. Earlier in his career, he served as CEO of Dagbladet, one of Norway's leading news media brands.
Fotoware has developed DAM software for more than three decades, with roots in the media industry. The challenges media organizations faced first, such as exponentially growing content volumes, managing rights, keeping track of provenance and proving authenticity, are now shared across industries. Today, Fotoware also serves global brands, retailers and manufacturers, public institutions, museums and cultural heritage organizations, and police and public safety agencies in markets around the world. As content ecosystems grow more complex and AI raises the stakes for trust and control, Fotoware is well positioned to help organizations meet today’s needs and prepare for what comes next.
"Every organization is becoming a content organization," says Terje Wibe, CEO of Fotoware. "Content is created and used in ever greater volumes, across more channels and systems. At the same time, AI is raising the stakes: knowing where content comes from, who owns the rights and whether it can be trusted is becoming business-critical. That is exactly where Fotoware has decades of expertise."
A committed owner and clear growth ambitions
Since Viking Growth acquired Fotoware in 2020, Fotoware has continued to invest in its technology, organization and international growth ambitions. The appointment of Wibe reflects a shared ambition to further strengthen Fotoware's position in the global DAM market, a growing yet still fragmented market, through organic growth as well as strategic partnerships and acquisitions.
Wibe succeeds Anne Gretland, who has led Fotoware since 2017, including throughout Viking Growth's ownership.
“Anne has done a formidable job building Fotoware into the company it is today. Under her leadership, the company has grown its revenue fivefold, while building a strong platform, loyal customers, a dedicated team with a strong culture, and a respected position in the DAM market. On behalf of the board and Viking Growth, I want to thank her for her leadership and dedication," says Jostein Vik, Partner at Viking Growth and Chair of the Board of Fotoware.
"Terje brings a rare combination of international growth experience, technology leadership and a strong understanding of the media and communications landscape. Fotoware operates in a market with enormous potential, and Terje has shown at Mercell how to turn a strong Norwegian technology company into a European leader. We believe he is the right leader to take Fotoware forward," Vik adds.
"Fotoware combines decades of expertise with a strong position wherever trust and security matter," says Wibe. "My first priority is to listen and learn from our people, customers and partners. From there, I see a significant opportunity to grow Fotoware, both organically and through acquisitions and partnerships."
