Fotoware selected to present C2PA at the IPTC Photo Metadata Conference 2026

Fotoware was one of five vendors selected to present at the "Metadata Safari", a new session format at the IPTC Photo Metadata Conference 2026, held online on 3 September. The IPTC Photo Metadata Working Group chose the vendors from a wide range of submitted pitches.

About the IPTC Metadata Safari: The Metadata Safari format was introduced this year to look at IPTC and other industry standards "in the wild". It is a series of short vendor demos showing how IPTC metadata, and related standards like C2PA, are implemented in real products that you can buy today. 

Fotoware was represented by Øystein Syversen, a DAM expert with 22 years of experience helping organizations unlock the full value of their digital content.

C2PA provenance, unbroken across a full production workflow

Fotoware demonstrated C2PA support across the entire workflow, showing how content provenance and authenticity information can be maintained and verified from ingestion through editing, management and publication.

The demonstration followed a real-world production workflow from a leading sports photography agency, demonstrating content credentials created at the moment of capture and then maintained and verified through every subsequent stage: ingestion, editing, management and publication, so the provenance chain is never broken and never reconstructed after the fact. That unbroken chain is what lets a publisher verify an image rather than simply trust it.

The workflow covered:

• automatic image ingestion directly from cameras via FTP into Fotoware,

• C2PA provenance preserved and verifiable at every handover

• immediate metadata enrichment and validation using IPTC standards,

• rapid search and distribution workflows,

• and end-to-end publishing processes used in an editorial environment.

It's a practical example of how industry standards work together to create trusted and transparent media workflows.

IPTC metadata is the backbone that makes provenance work

A central point of the presentation was how IPTC metadata serves as the backbone of the entire workflow: photographers, editors, archivists and publishing teams all rely on the same trusted metadata as images progress through different stages of production, from automatic tagging and rights information to editorial instructions, discoverability and content distribution.

The other "Metadata Safari" presenters alongside Fotoware were Camera Bits (makers of  Photo Mechanic), Adobe presenting a new version of the Photo Metadata Panel, Encypher and Trufo — alongside wider conference sessions.
