How DAM enables Bystronic to keep brand consistency across channels

21. February 2023

Bystronic is a leading technology company in the sheet metal processing industry. Headquartered in Switzerland, Bystronic has provided high-quality solutions enabling the automation of the complete material and cutting as well as bending process chain.

With over 3,500 employees worldwide at more than 40 locations, the organization needed to have one single source of truth to share the organizational media content with their employees worldwide. Therefore, Bystronic has been an early adopter of Digital Asset Management, using their solution over the past 15 years to store and manage their organization's media assets for internal users.

Bystronic won the 2nd place of the Media Management Award, showcasing how to implement a central media hub and its integration with several different portals managed by the organization. We caught up with Fabienne Flückiger, Head of Digital Engagement at Bystronic, to hear more about how a DAM solution helps to maintain brand consistency across different channels.

What is the primary purpose of a DAM solution at Bystronic?

When the DAM Picturepark was introduced at Bystronic almost 15 years ago, the main goal was to store and share assets, and to make them available to customers and subsidiaries. It has changed a lot over the past years. Today our DAM solution has become the single source of truth for imagery, videos and documents.

Furthermore, the Bystronic Group has integrated the Picturepark DAM solution with our various websites and portals. Smint.io offers us a range of portal products, such as the Training Portal, the Branding Portal, and the Event Portal, which seamlessly integrate with Picturepark. Each website is integrated with a common DAM solution to ensure media consistency across the channels. It is also connected to other external systems, such as CPQ and PIM solutions.

Who are the primary users of the DAM?

We have various portals and, therefore, different users, and they can independently access and find files they need at any time.

For example, for the Media Center, the primary users are the employees, customers and the relevant stakeholders such as investors. The Press Center is used for the press to access and download materials. The ByAcademy Portal and the Branding Portal are private portals and only accessible for the employees responsible for trainings and branding, respectively. We implemented strict access control with Single Sign-On (SSO) so that only the right group of people have access to the right content.

How does DAM help in maintaining brand consistency?

  • A Single source of truth: Currently holds almost 22K digital assets - mostly images and videos - are stored in our DAM solution. Imagine having a product brochure in over 22 languages – having one master location for all your assets enables you to take complete control.

  • Distribution of assets: Regardless of the size or file type, we can easily share them with internal and external via email without compromising or converting files. Furthermore, assets can be directly embedded on a website with a link. For example, all the videos running on Bystronic’s product pages are connected to the DAM. By doing so, we can ensure all our media content is cohesive and up to date no matter where it's used.

  • Integration with other channels and 3rd party systems: Media content in all our different channels, such as portals, are connected to the DAM. When an asset needs an update, we can do it once in the primary source, which will be reflected in all the different channels.

What does Media Management mean to you?

Bystronic has been growing over the last years, and so has the amount of assets. To guarantee a consistent appearance and ensure only current assets are used, a DAM is the best way to store and make assets available for employees and stakeholders. It is available 24/7 and works all around the globe, and is easy to maintain. With the Rights Management it can also be assured that certain assets are only available on specific portals or for specific users. For me, Media Management is a must nowadays to store the increasing number of assets in a controlled and centralized manner.
