INFO: Supported file formats in FotoWare applications version 6.0

FotoWare 6.0 supported file formats

Updated 23 sept 2009

XMP Metadata can be added to or changed in any file (format). When possible, the XMP metadata will be written into the file itself, otherwise it will be written to a ‘sidecar’ file with “.xmp” extension. The sidecar files are hidden from view in all FotoWare products but will be included in any file operation such as copy, move or delete.

The following file formats can be read and presented with a visual representation (thumbnail, preview or high resolution):

Text content will be added to the Content preview field in the Metadata. This will cause the metadata to be updated and may create a sidecar file. Image previews will be stored in the Macintosh resource of the file. The preview is accessible from Windows clients provided that the indexed files are stored on an NTFS file system. Macintosh clients can only see the preview when using the AFP file sharing protocol.

Special note for Adobe Illustrator files:
Illustrator files are now processed with Acrobat (files created with AI 8.0 or newer) or Distiller (AI 7.x and older). For newer files (8.0 and newer) "Create PDF compatible file" must be checked when saving in AI.
If Adobe Illustrator is installed on the server, it will be used rather than the Acrobat instance. Note that Illustrator CS3 cannot be installed on a Windows Server.
