The Index Data folder (IM_DATA) can be set to a different location than the Index folder. This means that it’s possible to use network folders (on other Windows servers with NTFS disk) as Index folders. The performance of search is often much higher when a disk that can use the local system cache is used to store the index data files.
It acts as a network catalog service, simplifying the archiving process and making the files easier accessible. With Index Manager, your archive can expand for years – without becoming obsolete due to slow search processing or configuration problems. Index Manager provides this as a service for the FotoWare applications; FotoWeb and FotoStation.
Index Manager will search through and maintain an index of all types of digital media files on the server (images, PDF documents, XML documents and a host of multimedia formats). The client workstations can then search in full text within all the files with blazing speed. The files can be located anywhere on the server – in several folders, on several hard disks or on removable media.
Index Manager will dynamically update the index as files are modified, renamed, moved, deleted or added. The index is therefore always up to date. Offline media is updated upon user request.

Index Manager is based on open industry standards, so your archive will always be directly accessible by other products – you are not tied up with a proprietary standard. All files maintained by Index Manager are still available as directly accessible files. Hence it is possible to directly access and manipulate the images through other applications. Still Index Manager is always online and will update any changes to the files in the archive.
