Check-out files for local editing

FotoWeb Desktop lets you check out files from the archive and open them in any compliant application on your desktop computer or your laptop. Image files can be cropped or edited directly in the FotoWeb Desktop image editor, while other document types can be opened and modified using any associated Windows application. After you have updated your document, simply check it back in to FotoWeb to update the archive with the new file.

The checkout feature also adds the benefit of letting you take your work with you. By checking out files to a laptop, you can bring the computer with you and make changes to the files when you have the time. Then, it’s simply a matter of connecting to the FotoWeb server again when you want to check in the documents.

Special editing features are available for image files, such as Photoshop and Illustrator file formats, allowing you to crop, adjust colors and perform other high-resolution editing.

The check-out feature ensures that files downloaded to a client are locked for editing by other users of FotoWeb. FotoWeb Desktop handles all file types that the target system (Windows or Mac OS X workstation) recognizes, so that the file can be opened in its associated application and later stored back to its original location on the web server. Hence, Word documents, for example, can be checked out, edited and checked in to the server again afterwards. FotoWeb desktop will automatically take care of uploading the file to its correct location in the background.
