The World of TUI is an international travel industrial world with over 150 travel brands in 20 countries, all working together under one umbrella, visualized by the red “TUI smile”.

TUI Nederland is a subsidiary of TUI Travel PLC, which is the market leader in Europe. TUI Travel PLC organization is presented in 20 different countries and counts 48,000 employees in total; TUI airlines have a fleet of some 155 aircrafts. TUI Nederland is situated with offices in Rijswijk, Enschede, Ammerzoden and Schiphol, and counts 2,000 employees. Included are 220 retail travel agencies and the airline ArkeFly with its 6 planes. It serves 1,2 million customers and has a € 1.4 billion gross turnover (2007).

At an earlier stage, images were delivered by Product Managers on CD or disk, with a written instruction for the design department. Images were converted to cmyk, prepared for printing specifications and stored in a dedicated prepress database.  Delivery of images for the web was solved in a separate process. Installing the FotoWare platform opened a single-source solution on media format independency; automated process-flows generate images for print or web and content can be easily managed by end-users.

Stored in a Digital Asset Management (DAM) system, images are centralized and specifications are clear to all processes. The benefit is also shown in transparency to end users. They have a visual check on their specific content, and other users in the organization have also access to these images via the FotoWeb client. The specifications of the DAM system were driven by an acceptable Return On Investment (ROI), a basic “off-the-shelf” solution fitting into custom built, company specific processes and following XML and industry standards. FotoWare offers a transparency on different components, like FotoWeb, Color Factory and Index Manager, is based on XML, and shows a moderate price policy.

When integrating FotoWare in the publishing processes, and connecting it to the Content Management System (CMS), all product managers and assistants were capable of managing all content from their own desk. About 130 people have direct access to all content, where marketing- and sales departments have their access on images via the FotoWeb client.

FotoWare acts as an image bank via the FotoWeb interface, but is also fully integrated in the automated publishing processes. FotoWare offers a modular and integrated solution and “talks” XML. Using the XMP field definitions is useful for clear access and interaction to metadata information. All the images are easy to find and are directly accessible from the working desk.

“When using FotoWare, integrated with the new publishing process, Product Managers have direct access to their organized images. With the FotoWare implementation significant cost savings have been achieved...”
Jos Roozenbeek - TUI Nederland
