The high regions of the alps and large areas of the Wadden Sea at the North Sea Coast are still in their pristine natural condition. The states Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg and Lower Saxony have declared their Wadden Sea areas as National Parks. This highest protected area category is an internationally respected title for this unique natural area.
Many people work for the National Park Office in Toenning, Schleswig-Holstein.Their work concerns maintaining the unique Wadden Sea and opening up new chances for nature. As conservation authority the Nationalparkamt develops protection concepts and supervises their observance; its officials co-operate closely with users and conservation federations.
The scientific long-term observation of the Wadden Sea permits the description of changes and trends; in this way protective measures and use restrictions can be justified scientifically and protected by legislation. The publicity work of the office tries to promote the natural value of the Wadden Sea to the tourists and local inhabitants and to raise critical environmental awareness that leads to responsible and nature-compatible behavior beyond the National Park.
Today our image archive has an amount of app. 12.000 images and growing. A FotoWare Cameleon solution enables several employees to access and work with these images. The images are mainly used for PR and education purposes (brochures, flyer, poster, advertising, calendars and picture post cards), for our own websites and websites of our partners and also for illustration in our information centre Multimar Wattforum (www.multimar-wattforum.de). We also use images for multimedia production and presentation. Another more and more important part of our work with images is illustration of scientific results and results of monitoring. Today visulization of our goals and targets is our greatest concern, concludes Dr. Martin Stock.
