The FotoWeb system had to solve the following challenges:
There was no digital advertisement archive in the transition from film to CTP, and the possibilities for creating a workflow for the archiving of the publisher’s original photos were limited. As a part of the introduction the existing decentralized and costly administration was to be replaced by a centralized management solution.
The following benefits were achieved by the implementation of FotoWeb:
- An intuitive solution for the advertisement archive and picture workflow, which can be utilized from anywhere in house through http.
- Forced IPTC texting for editors during repro as basis for automated archiving.
- A simple and central administration of FotoWeb on a web server.
“The numerous possibilities to adapt the workflow according to changing conditions was the decisive point when choosing FotoWeb by FotoWare”, says Steffen Köhler at MZ Systemtechnik. “Further criterions were the variety of supported formats and a highly customizable interface”, according to Mr. Köhler. This way the works both as an editor’s solution as well as a powerful advertisement archive for all departments.
On a daily basis the FotoWeb is used for retrieval of archived ads in the pre press and advertisement department as well as a tool for the editorial picture workflow in the 16 different editorial branches. Perl Scripts serve as preparation for EPS advert data (preparing previews with IPTC text). A customized IPTC text template is used as quality assurance for the editorial system and picture workflow as well as for the automated archiving function. Further FotoWare applications in use at Mitteldeutsche Zeitung are Index Manager and approx. 100 workstations with FotoStation Pro.
